It totally altered the dynamic of him coming out to Mark and fighting in the finale, so let's dissect what the differences were.

From a narrative standpoint, you could say Nolan is more compelling than Mark. Raised evil, turned good vs raised good, developed some more perspective on how things work. But as virtuous characters? No, Mark is better, his mistakes can mostly be attributed to naivete.
