Flight Laboratory, IIT Kanpur is an airstrip / aerodrome located inside IIT Kanpur 's campus at Kalyanpur 18 kilometres west of city of Kanpur, India. It is used by the Aerospace Engineering department of IIT Kanpur. [1] . Pawan Hans began a helicopter ferry service to Lucknow from June 2013, which later shut down silently. [2]

A commitment to education through teaching and research in broad areas of: rotary wing aeromechanics, Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) systems, autonomous / intelligent rotary wing micro / unmanned air vehicles (MAV / UAV), and inverse flight dynamics simulation with applications to experimentation, analysis and design.

Flight Laboratory is located at the airstrip inside IIT Kanpur and is used by its Aerospace Engineering department. IIT Kanpur is located on the Grand Trunk Road, 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) west of Kanpur City and measures close to 420 hectares (1,000 acres). This land was donated by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1960 and by March 1963 the institute had moved to its current location.

IIT Kanpur has developed an autonomous, unmanned, mini helicopter with support from the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The indigenously developed unmanned aerial vehicle has huge potential for use in agricultural spraying, surveillance, monitoring and aerial survey as well as for medical supplies and various defense applications.
