Jul 15, 2022 · In a normal context, a "ground rod" is understood to be just that, a rod approximately 2.5 meters in length and approximately 2 cm in diameter. Such a "ground rod", when it is driven vertically into the Earth (not when it is immersed in salt water), makes an extremely poor "RF counterpoise" or "ground plane" for a ground mounted vertical antenna.
Does a fence antenna work? - QRZ Forums
Jul 6, 2024 · Above ground radials would work best for the "L" and the vertical. In many HOA situations you can run two above ground radials in opposite directions along a fence using standoffs for god's sake, but if you must use an on-ground/buried radial field, the "L" and the vertical can share it so you only need one. This will give you a fair signal on ...

Jul 18, 2021 · I really, really doubt that a LOG has a better receive SNR than any above-ground horizontal wire antenna. The physics just does not support it. Now it is possible that when comparing SNR by switching between two receiving antennas, the coax feedlines from the receiver to the respective antennas have a different degree of suppression of Common ...

Jul 18, 2021 · If the ground is a copper sheet then the boundary condition is the copper sheet. If the ground is a layer of muck , granite, sand, organics, the 'ground' is approximately a lossy substrate with a nebulously defined boundary layer below it. Sometimes that is inches, sometimes feet. Depends on your 'ground' composition and the frequency. 73

Jul 18, 2021 · An antenna resting above a mediocre ground has a substantial transmission line effect, which means it phase cancels substantially in the far field. Simply stated, your loop, on the (mediocre) ground, excites an out of phase RF current (from the ground) and the two add up to close to zero. It hears very little as a result.

Jan 31, 2021 · A tinned copper braid grounding lead also came from the ATU to the closest vehicle chassis point. with a pair of 12 volt, 100 AHC batteries provided the DC power 0f 24/28 v0lts. For the antennas, we normally used a double set of 4 whips which were terminated into a Vee Laport adapter. basically a Y splitter.

Jul 24, 2021 · The LOG is a poor antenna. It is a poor antenna because it is placed in the extreme nearfield of lossy ground, which invokes the transmission line effect and thereby produces substantial phase canceIlation. That is not a question of being open or closed minded, It is a physical explanation as to why the performance is poor. Have a great day 73

May 13, 2022 · 630M GROUND WAVE EVALUATION 2023: Fellows, Twenty seven individual stations participated in the 630m GWEN during 2023. FST4-60 (F1) was used for most contacts, with CW a distant second. Contacts were made throughout the year, with slightly less activity in summer than in winter.

Feb 7, 2017 · So it punched a hole in the braid and jacket of the coax about every 12 inches and came out all over the place and took the closest path to ground - through all my electronic stuff. Now days I have a ground bar in my shack with coax connectors welded to it and I screw all my coax lines to that. When lightning hits it goes straight to ground.
