The winter storm halted travel for thousands of passengers Monday as airlines canceled and delayed flights. Several flights in and out of KC were affected.

According to a report, the #Chiefs were “stranded” at Kansas City International Airport ahead of their Week 18 matchup against the #Broncos.

The Kansas City Chiefs can eliminate the rival Denver Broncos from playoff contention by beating them in Sunday's Week 18 game, but they can't return to Missouri immediately following the contest. A day after their scheduled takeoff from Kansas City International Airport was delayed due to rapid ice accumulation on the airfield,

“Due to rapid ice accumulation, the airfield at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is currently closed to flight operations,” the airport said on X. Kansas City City Manager Brian Platt posted on X saying the runways are expected to reopen to normal operations Saturday evening.

The Sporting News is tracking the latest updates on the Chiefs' delayed flight to Denver. 6:16 p.m.: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Chiefs are set to take off for Denver, ending the delay.

The Chiefs are set to face the Broncos in Denver, but they can’t get out of Kansas City because of the weather.

Winter weather bringing heavy snowfall and cold temperatures across the country prevented flights from taking off at Kansas City International Airport. Some travelers are left stranded in Missouri until after the weekend.

Hundreds of flights have been delayed or all out canceled this weekend as a massive winter storm snarled traffic across the country. Among those impacted were the Kansas City Chiefs, who were trying to leave Kansas City on Saturday ahead of their Week 18 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
