It‘s a new era in Class 6A girls tennis as Leah Lup has officially claimed her spot at the top. The West Linn freshman became the first Lion to win a girls tennis title (in either singles or doubles) and became the first freshman to win the Class 6A state title since Lizzy Stevens of Tigard did it in 2017.

The Commodores will play Tuesday in Newport News against the Granby boys and Menchville girls. All of those teams earned berths in the Class 5 state tournament.

La Salle's Andrew Smith won the RIIL Boys Tennis State Singles Tournament, defeating his teammate Joe Cavanagh in the final. Barrington's Henry Birbiglia and Connor Meehan won the doubles title, overcoming a significant deficit against Hendricken's Patrick Cavanagh and Shane Ciunci.

Allen Yi of Goshen was successful in defending his OCIAA boys tennis singles title. In a rematch of the 2024 Section 9 final, the top-seeded Yi defeated No. 2 Ethan Rodriguez of Minisink Valley 6-1, 6-4 in the championship match.

The Falcons earned three first-place finishes to cruise to another title. Broadneck won its third straight 4A crown and River Hill claimed 3A.

There were a few bumps along the way, but overall, the Edwardsville tennis team heads into next weekend’s state tournament in suburban Chicago with plenty of momentum. Led by singles champion Jesse Hattrup and doubles champions Schaefer Bates and Isaac Chleboun,
