A winter snowstorm descended on Ontario and Quebec on Sunday bringing heavy snowfall and blowing winds to the neighbouring provinces for a second time in just four days.

A second winter storm in less than a week blanketed much of Quebec and Ontario on the weekend, exhausting overworked city clearing crews, prompting flight cancellations and stranding passengers, many of whom were travelling to places specifically to escape the cold.

A huge winter storm is expected to descend across parts of Ontario and Quebec later on Wednesday and quickly spread across Atlantic Canada over the next two days, prompting Environment Canada to issue a flurry of weather warnings.

Environment Canada has issued winter storm warnings for much of eastern Ontario and western Quebec. Emergency preparedness experts say to stay home if possible as Ottawa residents face a second severe snowfall this week.

Roughly 25 to 30 cm of snow fell in the Greater Toronto area while Montreal and Quebec City were expected to receive 30 to 50 cm and areas to the east of those cities were looking at as much as 70 cm.
