Florida health officials reiterated Thursday that state law allows abortions at any point in pregnancy to save the life of the mother, responding to concerns that Florida’s new six-week abortion ban is tying doctors’ hands and putting women in danger.

Florida has banned abortions after the first six weeks of pregnancy, before many women know they're pregnant. There are some exceptions, including in the case that the woman’s life is in danger, or that she provides evidence that the pregnancy is the result of rape, incest or human trafficking.

Florida's ACLU announced it is preparing to sue the state Agency for Health Care Administration, accusing it of misusing public funds to influence voters on abortion, according to ABC Action News. The Florida branch of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)'s legal team discussed the upcoming lawsuit in a virtual press conference on September 11.
