OLD FORT, N.C. (WSPA) – An “out of control” wildfire fire has been reported off of Bat Cave Road south of Old Fort in McDowell County. The fire was caused by a tree falling onto a power line.

A major stretch of road is back open in Western North Carolina ... the connector between Chimney Rock and Bat Cave. The pavement stretches for more than two and a half miles.

“It’s probably the nicest road in several counties right now,” said Paul Brock, who lives in Bat Cave. “Obviously, there’s limited access the [NC]DOT crews have done an awesome job.
