The University of Minnesota and Essentia Health share the framework for a bold vision to write the next chapter of healthcare for all Minnesotans.

This vision is only in the early stages, and the school, which is in an agreement with Fairview Health Services that ends in 2026, says that they shared their future ideas with Fairview.

The University of Minnesota and Duluth-based Essentia Health announced ambitious but vague plans on Friday to create an “all-Minnesota health system solution” through a $1 billion joint investment over five years.

Century College and Concordia University, St. Paul team up on the program, helping staff a growing field as the population ages.

The U of M Spirit Squad has now added two more national championships at the 2025 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championships in Orlando. The Gophers won in Cheer (Small Coed Game Day) and Dance (Pom).

(ABC 6 News) — A new healthcare system is being proposed between the University of Minnesota and Essentia Health. The organizations say the $1 billion plan would help overcome healthcare challenges seen in Minnesota like rising costs, limited access, and health disparities.

Essentia Health and University of Minnesota propose a new nonprofit healthcare organization to address rising costs and expand care access in Minnesota.

The University of Minnesota cheer squad also took home a national championship, the team’s first in its history. Cheerleading squads actually originated at the University of Minnesota in 1898. And the team still uses that original chant: “Ski-U-Mah!”

From the start of the school year through December, data from Minneapolis Police shows a 49 percent decrease in reported crimes in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood, which includes Dinkytown.
