SEOUL, South Korea — Supporters of impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol are using American symbols to voice their allegiance following his arrest due to a failed attempt to impose martial law last month.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea ’s impeached president, Yoon Suk Yeol, was formally arrested early Sunday, days after being apprehended at his presidential compound in Seoul, as he faces possible imprisonment over his ill-fated declaration of martial law last month.

After impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol spent his first days in jail following his arrest on insurrection charges over his botched declaration of martial law, an image circulated in social media posts that falsely claimed it showed the suspended leader's mug shot.

The Boeing 737-800 skidded off a runway in the South Korean city of Muan on Dec. 29 after its landing gear failed to deploy, slamming into the concrete structure and bursting into flames, killing all but two of the 181 people on board.

South Korea's transport ministry said on Wednesday that it would remove the concrete embankment installed at Muan International Airport following last month's Jeju Air crash, its deadliest domestic air disaster.
