The Seahawks announced Sunday night during the NFL’s conference championship games they have hired 37-year-old Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator. So ends the search that began Jan. 6, the day coach Mike Macdonald fired Ryan Grubb after his only season calling Seattle’s plays.
Seattle looked to an NFC foe to find its next offensive coordinator. The Seahawks are hiring Saints assistant Klint Kubiak as their next OC, per NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo.
In Seattle, Kubiak will join a team that has a talented offense with quarterback Geno Smith and an electric supporting cast that includes receivers Jaxon Smith-Njigba, D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. But coach Mike Macdonald was reportedly seeking a playcaller who could boost Seattle’s rushing attack, which finished just 28th in yards per game.

Kubiak, the son of former head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterback Gary Kubiak, brings experiences at the pro level that Grubb lacked. It appears to be a safer hire. Whether it’s pedigree or some old-fashioned NFL nepotism, Kubiak knows his way around an NFL locker room.
Kubiak spent 2024 as the New Orleans Saints' offensive coordinator. After the Saints fired coach Dennis Allen in early November, Kubiak stayed on under interim coach Darren Rizzi. However, the Saints have yet to hire a head coach, so Kubiak was free to leave for another job.
