The other Day 2 games were overshadowed by Canada's lackluster, lifeless showing against Latvia in a shootout loss.

Eriks Mateiko scored the only goal of the shootout as Latvia stunned an alarmingly uninspired Canada 3-2 at the world junior hockey championship Friday. The forward moved in on his country's eighth effort before firing home a goal to register one of the biggest upsets in tournament history.

In one of the most shocking upsets in tournament history, Canada lost 3-2 in a shootout to Latvia in the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship (WJC). Canada now holds a 1-0-1-0 record.
