Indian stock market benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50 fell 0.80% in intraday trade on January 9, marking the second consecutive session of decline due to weak global cues and rising US dollar and bond yields.

Indian benchmark indices are trading lower at noon. Both Nifty and Sensex are down 0.6%. The benchmark Nifty 50 will see volatility on Thursday's weekly expiry.

On the daily chart, the Nifty formed a red candle but respected the demand zone of 23,460–23,500, settling near the 200-day Simple Moving Average (250-DSMA) support.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a negative start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 23,721 level, a discount of nearly 60 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.
