WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday it plans to announce proposed temporary cuts to flights at Newark after meetings with major U.S. airlines to address congestion impacts.

The FAA is proposing to temporarily reduce the number of flights landing at Newark Airport in an effort to curb widespread delays.

Three days of meetings to discuss reducing the number of flights at Newark Liberty International Airport concluded Friday in the wake of critical air traffic control problems around the metro New York hub and other US airports.

Attorneys for Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (D) accused the Trump administration of “selective prosecution” as the mayor made his first court appearance since his arrest.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said federal prosecutors tried to “humiliate and degrade” him by making him give his fingerprints and take a mug shot for a second time Thursday after a court appearance on a trespassing charge stemming from his arrest at an immigration detention center he was protesting.
