Shannon Currier, the new owner of Portage Lakeside Cabins in the Aroostook County town of Portage Lake, has converted the seasonal business with four cabins and a cottage into a four-season resort.

They opened NautiMI on the River, a new shop and hangout featuring Michigan products, an ice cream parlor and kayak, canoe and paddleboard rentals on the Huron River near Portage Lake.

The resort owns 1,000 feet of sandy beach on Portage Lake and its marina can provide a slip for yachts up to 100 feet long. The nearby Lake Michigan beach is a part of a 13-mile-long public beach.
