Staffing shortages at an air traffic control center have added to the effects of a runway closure, prompting United Airlines to cut flights at the hub.

NEWARK, NJ — If you or someone you know is flying into or out of Newark today, there are delays at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport. The FAA said runway construction and staffing shortages are to blame, as well as issues with equipment.

Air traffic control staffing issues are cascading into major delays for passengers flying in and out of the busy Newark airport outside of New York City for an unprecedented fifth day in a row.
