Volkswagen will unveil the concept version of its entry-level EV on March 5 while the production version based on the MEB platform will arrive in Europe in 2027.

Volkswagen’s new entry-level EV will be part of the fully electric ID product family. This range has been a major success, with over 1.35 million ID cars sold globally since 2019. The new entry-level EV will be based on the MEB platform. It is a shortened version of the one used with the ID.2all hatchback.

Volkswagen is working on an entry-level electric vehicle that will sell for a base price of €20,000 ($21,000). The company has already given its own employees a look at its initial design during a meeting in Wolfsburg,

Faced with high domestic costs, stuttering demand for EVs and increasing competition from lower-cost Chinese makers, Volkswagen outlined a five-year plan for its namesake brand.

Volkswagen is planning a series of affordable EVs for the European market, with the roughly $26K 2026 ID.2 set to be followed by a $21K ID.1 in 2027.
