Torrential rains before dawn on Friday deluged the Guadalupe River, which burst its banks and killed dozens of people, leaving behind mangled piles of debris, trees and cars.

A massive Texas search and cleanup effort was set to enter its fifth day Tuesday in response to Guadalupe River flooding that surged through the area on July 4.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott told a news briefing on Tuesday afternoon that at least 161 people are known to be missing after the deadly flooding, noting that searches will persist throughout the Guadalupe River system in the hope of locating anyone else.
