A swirling weather system is moving over the north-central U.S., as seen from CIRA satellite imagery. Severe storms are expected later today across the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes regions.

There’s been an eerie lull in extreme weather across the U.S. recently, but it is slowly changing as the FOX Forecast Center monitors severe storms across the Plains during what is expected to be a seven-day stretch of severe weather.

Initial reports of damage from Friday’s storms include downed trees and power lines, with the extent of the damage still unknown in many places.
