New court documents show Powell, a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) correctional deputy, was gunned down as he and his 5-year-old daughter returned home and were getting out of their vehicle. As he fell, Powell pulled his 5-year-old daughter close, losing his last breath to protect her.

PBSO says Basil Powell, 39, was returning home around 7:30 p.m. Monday. As Powell got out of his car, he was immediately shot multiple times.
