Some residents across Los Angeles County woke up Friday to a wireless emergency evacuation alert, but county officials confirmed it was another "erroneous" message.

Around 4:15 p.m., another alert was sent out by the the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management asking residents to disregard the previous alert, as it was only intended for the Kenneth fire, which erupted near West Hills bordering Los Angeles and Ventura counties earlier in the afternoon.

A second alert followed the first, explaining that it was meant only for people near the Kenneth Fire, a new brush fire that ignited Thursday afternoon.

Los Angeles County residents received an evacuation warning in error Thursday as another fire sparked that afternoon.

I have been informed the evacuation warning that many of us just received on our phones was mistakenly issued countywide due to a technical error," Supervisor Janice Hahn said.

Kevin McGowan, Director of L.A. County Office of Emergency Management, tells KNBC the department does not yet understand what caused the evacuation alert error that was issued throughout Los Angeles County.

The emergency alert caused confusion for untold residents for more about 20 minutes until a second message was sent announcing the error.
