Mourners will gather in downtown Houston on Wednesday morning to honor fallen Houston firefighter Marcelo Garcia. Garcia, 42, died last week after being trapped underneath a collapsed wall while responding to a fire at a warehouse in Houston's East End.

A public funeral service for Houston firefighter Marcelo “Ox" Garcia III starts at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, located at 111 St. Joseph Pkwy. in Houston. A separate, private viewing will be held for family and close friends.

The firefighter procession will depart at 8 a.m. from Fire Station 8 at 1818 Louisiana St. before making its way to the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at 1111 St. Joseph Pkwy. The memorial service begins at 9 a.

The funeral took place at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. ABC13 was at Fire Station 8, where the community paid its respects.

Road closures will take effect in downtown Houston Wednesday morning as the city bids farewell to slain firefighter Marcelo Garcia.

Houston Firefighter Marcelo 'Ox' Garcia III is being remembered today by hundreds of colleagues from around the state and country. Garcia died last Wednesday in a collapse at a warehouse fire. His station assignment was unique -- in the neighborhood where he grew up. He often responded to calls from neighbors and others he or his family knew.

Marcelo Garcia was a ten-year veteran of HFD and proudly served the East Houston community, where he grew up. He spent several years working out of Fire Station 23.

Today is the memorial services for fallen HFD firefighter Marcelo "OX" Garcia. Services began at 8 a.m. and will he moving to a church at another location. A woman is charged in the deadly fire that claimed his life.
