This is totally inaccessible for people with any mobility issues. The lighting is poor. The ground is very uneven & there are no hand rails on many of the steps. It’s an accident waiting to happen. …Full review by tamerun

You'll be fine. The palace doesn't get too busy, unless there's a number of Outlander coach groups arriving all at once - or you plan on visiting on Jousting Day. What I would say though, …
You'll be fine. The palace doesn't get too busy, unless there's a number of Outlander coach groups arriving all at once - or you plan on visiting on Jousting Day. What I would say though, is a Historic Environment Scotland membership is pretty cheap if you plan on visiting other things (nearby Edinburgh Castle, Blackness Castle, or Doune Castle, for example)
I'm on a road trip, and unfortunately will get to the palace only after closing time. Is it worth a stop just to take some pictures from the outside after it's closed?
